Russell

On June 2, 2023, Ambassador Russell passed away, and all our hearts at Harmony were broken. Russell was our faithful companion and champion. At Harmony Animal Hospital, we believe that some of the best hospital mascots are those who happen to find their way into a hospital via a difficult road– which is exactly what our hospital kitty, Russell, did. He found his way into our lives, our hospital, and our hearts at the perfect time and became a permanent resident of our clinic for 13 years. To learn more about Russell’s story, click here.

While Harmony’s Hospital and Resort has not seen an increase in canine flu cases, we want to make you aware that the numbers are trending up in Raleigh and surrounding areas.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Second Chance Pet Adoptions for donating enough funds for us to fix our broken digital X-ray machine! They also helped purchase a second anesthesia machine, enabling us to expand the number of surgeries we can do daily and help more pets receive the care they need! We are so grateful for our rescue partners at Second Chance.

“Where’s Lola?”

Lola, our new house cat, came to us in August because she needed a new home. She has quickly found a place in our hearts! Lola is quite timid around dogs, so for now, she is staying in our administrative offices and loves being Admin Kitty! She is chatty, loves people, and enjoys playing “Where’s Lola” as we search in her never-ending unique hiding places! We hope that one day, she will graduate and follow in the footsteps of Russell as Ambassador Kitty, but for now, we are enjoying all the fun she is bringing to our team!

Meet Henry, a Cancer Survivor

HenryWe love sharing heartwarming news! Meet Henry, a spirited 9-year-old yellow Lab who recently triumphed over cancer with the help of Stelfonta, a new cancer medication that fights against mast cell tumors in dogs. His inspiring journey is a beacon of hope for all pet parents facing a similar challenge.

From Henry’s owner, Hayley

Henry’s owner, Hayley, first noticed a bald spot between Henry’s legs when he was walking one day. Upon examination at Harmony, the initial step was to take a conservative approach and see if alopecia was the culprit.

After two weeks, Haley noticed the spot began to bleed and brought Henry back in. Dr. Kelsi performed an aspirate, which showed evidence of a Mast Cell.

With Henry being almost nine years old, the Harmony team and Hayley wanted to explore non-surgical methods for treatment. Dr. Kelsi determined Henry was a candidate for the Stelfonta injection – a non-surgical mast cell tumor treatment.

When asked about Henry’s treatment process, Hayley replied, “Besides being slightly uncomfortable – Henry seemed to feel okay the entire time. Dr. Kelsi also supplied me with so much information, which helped me feel comfortable, too. Within 24 hours after the injection, I could already see changes in the tumor, and within 7 days, it was almost completely gone! Now I can’t even tell where the tumor used to be!”

Dr. Kelsi said, “Henry is doing very well after his most recent check-up! It was so rewarding for me to work with Henry and Haley using the Stelfonta injection and see his response to the treatment extending not only his life expectancy but also his quality of life. Henry is a lovely, happy dog, and I’m so glad to have been able to help him and his family.”

We want to extend a special thank you to Dr. Kelsi, Keri Crill, Krysta Hammond, Courtney Webb, and Erin Lancaster for all their hard work on this case!

At Harmony Animal Hospital, we are committed to the well-being of your four-legged companions. The success story of Henry and countless other pets inspires us to continue our pursuit of excellence in veterinary medicine and care.

If you’re facing a similar challenge or seeking information about Stelfonta, we invite you to contact our dedicated team. We are here to provide the support, knowledge, and care you and your pet deserve.
